Sunday, September 24, 2007 was a great day for a picnic. That day instead of relaxing in the grass I was busy replacing a transmission filter, but as I drove down South Campbell I looked over to my right and there in Fasnight Park sitting in the grass was a sight to make any gearhead's heart skip a beat: a collection of exceptionally nice chevelles with hoods open and paint jobs gleaming.

The gallery is up from the September 21, 2007 Test and Tune. There were a huge number of cars for this event and the weather was quite nice, lower 80s during the day and dropping down into the 60s that night, keeping the track warm and the air cool, all in all a great night to be out trying to mash your foot through your floorboard. Interestingly there were a pair of BMW 5 series rolling down the track, something we don't see often enough.

This is the first 10 minutes of races that we caught on all 3 cameras. There's about 11 races here, so there are 22 racers represented. This is not edited aside from cutting out gaps between the runs. You'll probably hear a lot of background noise that normally isn't in the videos, but at the same time you can clearly hear the cars. There will be at least a second video, and it is possible that we caught enough cars for a third. Keep watching!

Here's a trio of interesting YouTube videos for you to enjoy. The first shows that not all Chargers are slow, the second is a Fox News story about California crushing impounded street racer cars, and the third is a really surprising Reliant K-Car. Anybody who was around in the 80s will appreciate this last one, and the crowd reaction to the race is great!

You see it written on the hoods of cars, you see it in marketing pamphlets and you see products that promise to make use of the "ram air" effect. It certainly seems like a simple enough idea: put a scoop on the front of your car and let the air pressure that builds up feed directly into the engine. But does it really do anything, or is it just hype?
