It was on a 100 shot. I think I straightened out the converter by foot braking it up while on the line instead of launching off of idle. It was pretty well locked up right from launch. I also stretched the progressive ramp up to a full 3 seconds, hoping to maybe keep it from slamming and causing the converter to slip from that (just pulled that out of my ass, but something made it all work so I might as well give that credit).

Dear Santa
All I want for Christmas is two well prepped lanes and the folks that gather there each week. Being close to home and dry on summer Fridays would be a bonus.

Well at least you have it narrowed down to the converter. You can always buy a NOS friendly one if you feel the need.

Well if Wes can come up with a great torque converter that is nitrous ready for 20 dollars installed, I'll buy it.

I still think I'm gonna hold out on a converter for a while. What do you think Devin? I may try to scrape up the cash for a spare set of heads so we can see just how good the flyin hillbilly is at porting. I'd say with porting and cams I can pick up another 60-75 horsepower.

The torque converter really should always be the last thing you do, because it is so easily affected by everything else you have done.

Once you get it lined out and are happy with everything else, throw the TC in there and enjoy the extra 2-3 tenths.

Devin is right on. Anything that effects the power band will be have a role in what torque converter you choose. Idealy (all out race car) when the car shifts you want the rpms to be just below peak torque or as near to it as possible when it hits the new gear. For street use they have a tendency to fall beneath peak torque by a bit but still in the powerband of the motor which is why there is such a big improvement when a converter is installed beacuse it better utilizes the power that you are already making by keeping the engine in the power band.

It's generally a good idea to get every last thing lined out first, or you'll end up doing something stupid like spending money on a converter, only to find out later that you are loosing about 50 hp through slip.

Not that I know anybody who ever did anything like that.
