benefit car show/ bbq cookoff? 6 Months, 1 Week ago Karma: 11
hey guys, i've been thinking about trying to get some kind of fundraiser event going. i was thinking about maybe have a combination car show and bbq cookoff. i don't know anything about organizing something like this, so i'm just putting the idea out there. i think if we break a car show into several categories so that a race car isn't competing against a $75000 show car, and a daily driver that we could maybe muster a good turnout. also if we were to have a bbq cookoff the that was judged on votes then it would be an added value to the people that came out and looked at the cars since they wouldn't have to buy lunch too. we could charge enough to enter the car show to cover the trophies, and donate the gate fee to whatever charity ( i vote some manner of food bank ) that we deem suitable. it would be nice to try and find a radio station to donate some coverage of the event and maybe help drive attendance up. i don't have any idea if any of this is feasable at all, but i just had the idea, and will commit to it if we can make it a reality ( and i will bribe people to vote for me ). opinions please.

I'm all for it, the biggest thing is that you have to talk Wes into it.

I was considering seeing what it would cost to just rent the whole place for an evening, and see if that cost could be negated by the gate fees or whatever.

I have a whole ebook on organizing car shows and whatnot, and tried to do that last year but everything got put on the shelf from the heart attack.

it wouldn't have to be held at the track would it? i was thinking that if we were to try and do someting like this in springfield that maybe we could find a venue that would help us out and maybe not break the bank. also, i think we would draw more spectators if they didn't have to drive out to the track. don't get me wrong, doing it at the track would be super cool, but it don't have to be there to be good. maybe we could find a company that would let us use thier parking lot for the positive publicity that should be generated.

well, it's not so much that i wouldn't want to do it at the track, but the fact that the track would most likley be cost prohibitive since we'd be trying to raise funds for more than just to support the event. of course until someone actually talks to wes, this is all just speculation about cost.

I agree. I think the cost of renting the track would offset the amount of money made. I don't see why anpac or someone like that wouldn't donate their parking lot. I might even be able to convince Burlington-Northern to let us use the lot here at work. I wonder if we could maybe get a few businesses to throw in some door prizes?

The plan last year was to rent the lot at the old Ducks stadium... it's freaking HUGE. They even set up a racetrack every month there and run road courses. And it was really cheap, something like 300 bucks.

That's a hell of a deal. The local scca is out there 1 sunday a month. I usually see them on my way to work. That would be a pretty good place to go since it's a big open area.

that sounds like a good plan devin, i'd even kick in half the rent if it was a lousy $300.

This is true. It's also punishment for not getting off my ass and going to UTI like I've always wanted.
